About C.A.N.O.A.
Home San Diego Partner C.A.N.O.A. is a project initiated by Father James Hagan and the local community, and stands for Centro de Atencion a Ni–os de Otros Aptitudes. C.A.N.O.A. is a center for severely handicapped children and youth. It is comprised of volunteer groups serving the needy in Mexico: Centro Juvenil, De Colores Foundation and M.A.N.O. C.A.N.O.A. offers services to those inflicted with cerebral palsy, mental retardation and other disabling conditions.

The program encompasses medical assistance, counseling and education both for the children and their families, as well as recreational and education programs. We have constructed an assembly hall and a diagnostic and therapy center for special needs children living in the southern hills of Tijuana, beyond present community services. C.A.N.O.A. emphasizes physical, psychological, communication, nutritional and occupational therapies. Children and parents learn basic skills that develop their potential and lead to their optimum levels of independence. C.A.N.O.A. is staffed by experienced and dedicated professionals in the fields of medicine, physical therapy and psychology.

Early C.A.N.O.A. Construction
We have some photos of the early construction, in 2004. Father Jamie is an experienced builder and was the Director of Construction of the Clinica San Luis de Obispo. FatherŐs vision, experience and dedication attracted many volunteer builders and supporters to his projects, such as the International Relief Teams and their volunteers, church groups of many different denominations, and support groups on both sides of the border.

The C.A.N.O.A campus is located in the southern hills of Tijuana in the La Gloria district. Now, in 2007, the campus consists of 3 buildings: the Main Building is structured with the Main Assembly Hall in the center and physical therapy rooms, offices, bathrooms and kitchen along both sides. The high ceiling has skylight windows as well as ventilating windows for optimum natural light and ventilation.

The Second Building is the Physical Therapy building, with a stage area for events and presentations This remarkable building is depicted in its own section with photographs of its extraordinary design. This building has completed exterior and most of the interior construction when these photos were taken in June 2007.

The Third Building is the Hydrotherapy building which has changing rooms, donated hydrotherapy tubs and an ingenious overhead beam lift system that lifts the disabled patients from their wheelchairs into the hydro tubs. C.A.N.O.A. main building construction as of September, 2004.

Land next to the CANOA campus has recently been purchased to build a housing facility for the disabled. We will keep you informed as plans progress.
